That nowhere week that exists between Christmas and New Year’s always feels like a gift, like something stolen: none of the rules apply, none of the laws, none of the restrictions.
I gave my team at the soul-crushing-day-job the holiday off, so I have spent my lost week covering for them at work. At home I've been focused on getting more reading in (started The Eyes Are the Best Part by Monica Kim based on your recommendation) and making sure my kids are resting in anticipation of their 2nd semester. Thinking of all things that were accomplished this year and focusing on what I hope to get done in 2025. I hope you and the very large cats stay safe and warm!
Writing as often as I can, trying to read a whole book (starting Notes of a Crocodile), and working as a host at a restaurant (whatever pays the bills!) are filling these inbetween days for now. Trying to plan how I’d like to spend the transition into the new year and what I’ll do to honour this year while welcoming the new.
I have writing assignments to occupy me these liminal weeks. I've also used them to experience both Ramsey Campbell and T. Kingfisher for the first time.
Huzzah for kitties and kitty-snuggles! (Especially when it isn't Too Damn Hot like it is often this time of year, here.)
I'm glad this liminal week has been treating you kindly, and equally glad to be able to report it has likewise been a quiet, gentle time for myself, though in my case most of it has been spent binging on assorted anime seasons I've been meaning to watch for a while. (Mostly great, a couple, not so much.)
It certainly helped with the timeless and liminal feeling here that the week has been almost entirely solo, with both housemates gone for either all or the vast majority of it. Neither of them bugs me greatly very often, but it's still very nice to just have to place entirely to myself and the Feline Overlords.
Oh, and I've also been slowly reading my way through Lilith Saintcrow's The Chained Knight, which is the first of hers I've read. There's some very rare, if not unique world-building going on here, and I'm still looking forward to learning a lot more about it, being roughly halfway through at this point.
The new year will be on us all too soon, so let's be sure to treasure this interval while we can, no?
